Make quilting accesible

Quilting is fun, connects people, brings peace of mind, is a way to share stories, and is a great way to upcycle old textiles into new treasures. This makes quilting very useful to create strong creative communities all over the world.

With the Kick Ass Quilts quilting methodology we aim to make  quilting accessible for communities and people all over the world.

Quilting ain’t hard if you learn together step by step. And quilting ain’t expensive when you creatively use what’s already there!

The Kick Ass quilting methodology

Learning to quilt is easy if you know where to start. That’s why we devised a roadmap with 4 steps to learn how to quilt. In each class you learn new techniques and patterns to go from quilt beginner to a confident quilter. Also, in each class we encourage students to integrate the core values of Kick Ass Quilts into their work.

  • Sustainability: use what we have and embrace the value of the resourches the earth gives us
  • Joy: Fun as a guidance in life to find the things that make us value live and love living
  • Connection: Find connection with yourself, your community and the planet through art
  • Mindfulness: Peace of mind, healing and comfort by making beauty with your own hands

Quilting can be done both by hand and with a sewing machine.

Roadmap to learn to quilt

There are 4 steps to become a Kick Ass Quilter. Each class takes you through different techniques, patterns, projects and philosofies. Each steps encourages you to discover your own creative spark and learn about the magic of quilting!

Step 1: A Mini memory quilt

In this class you learn all the basic steps of quilting with a ‘mini memory quilt’ project.

Quilting is a way to keep memories attached to clothes. And to also reuse scraps to keep the value of the textile resourches

step 2: A lap quilt sampler to save the world

Quilting is storytelling. Textiles hold memories. This combination creates the magic of quilting! That’s why we are going to quilt with old clothes and saved textiles! Bonus:  This is also good for the environment because it extends the life of textiles. The video shows how I prepare saved textiles before quilting.

Step 3: Quiltify everything

Now it’s time to integrate quilting in every aspect of your life!

Step 4: Community Quilting

Part of the quilting tradition is making quilts for other people in your community.
